Snapchat’s Spectacles go on sale, and there are crazy lines to get them
Snap Inc’s Spectacles have gone on sale, and there’s a huge rush to get them.
Snap Inc, aka Snapchat’s parent company has finally released its Spectacles, the $130 sunglasses that will let users record 10 second videos in one go and them upload them online. The company’s first hardware product appears to have a lot of people lining up to buy them. Snap Inc is using a rather cute-yellow coloured vending machine to dispense these.
Already on ebay, Snap Inc.’s Spectacles are retailing at $500 going up all the way to $1000 or more. Based on the tweets shared by Spectacles official account people are already sharing videos of their new Spectacles and videos they have shot with them.
Spectacles come with a 115-degree wide angle lens meant to recognise a person’s field of vision and will let users record videos of up to 10 seconds in go, although it can be increased to thirty seconds in the settings.
The Spectacles are compatible with iPhone 5 and later, running iOS 8 and above and Android devices running Android 4.3 and above with Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi Direct. Users will have to pair the Spectacles with their phone to transfer the video content to their device; and Snapchat users can add Spectacles to their account as well.
To let people know that you’re recording them, there’s a light on the outside that goes on. There’s also an inward-facing light which turns on as well to alert the user. Spectacles come in three colour options: Black, Teal and Coral. The video recorded is a circular one.
